A MUTARE man, believed to be a member of the uniformed forces is on the run after he last week waylaid and assisted an unsuspecting woman to cross the Zimbabwe-Mozambican border through an illegal crossing point before raping her twice.
Police said it has not yet been established if the man, who was one of the soldiers and policemen manning the illegal entry point near the Zim-Mozambican border known as Rimayi, is a police officer or a soldier.
The officer who was clad in civilian attire is still at large.
Police said the accused demanded sex several times from the 38-year-old woman (name withheld) on their way to Mutare and later raped her after his sexual advances had been turned down.
On June 27, the woman went to Mozambique using an illegal crossing point known as Rimayi near the Forbes Border Post intending to buy secondhand clothes.
She also intended to smuggle the bale of secondhand clothes back to Mutare when she arrived back at the border.
The officer who was together with other soldiers and policemen manning the border post offered to escort the woman to Mutare using the same illegal route. On their way, the accused allegedly begged for sex from the woman, but she turned down the proposal.
The accused told her that he had gone for more than two months without having sex, thus he "needed urgent assistance" since he was sex starved.
The duo continued with the journey before the accused begged for the sexual favours again and was turned down.
"The horny officer pushed her to the ground, wore a condom and raped her once. The two continued with the journey and after walking for a distance, the accused tripped her to the ground for the second time and raped her again.
“Upon arrival in Mutare, he accompanied the woman to Sakubva Bus Terminus and left her there. She later made a report to the police and investigations are still in progress," said the acting Manicaland provincial police spokesman, Assistant Inspector Enock Chishiri.
