THE Minister of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development, Dr Joseph Made, has encouraged Nyanga farmers to support the land reform programme through growing potatoes on a large scale.

Addressing farmers at Mr Norman Sanyanga's Plot 22 near Juliasdale last Friday, Dr Made, said more needs to be done to increase potato farming in Nyanga.
He promised to push for the availing of more potato farming inputs to the farmers to increase the hectarage of potatoes.
He also called for transparency in the distribution of all agricultural inputs.
Speaking at the same occasion, Mr Norman Sanyanga, said he started growing potatoes in 2005 and had planted six hectares.
He said he sent his soil for analysis and this helped him to give it the best treatment it needed.
"I am expecting 3 000 to 4 000 pockets," he said.

Addressing the same gathering, the Manicaland Governor Provincial, Cde Chris Mushowe, said, "We should support our farmers in achieving bigger yields. Nyanga is also ideal for tourism and we should support it. If Nyanga is ignored, then it means no tourism in Manicaland."
He encouraged people to come up with business development committees that would exchange programmes with Chinese.
After the field tour, Dr Made proceeded to Nyarumvurwe Secondary School in Nyanga North where addressed Zanu-PF supporters.
He encouraged the villagers especially the youths to take farming seriously.-Manica Post
