ECONET'S Scholarships secured them a place on the award winner's side as they were rewarded for the Outstanding Social
Responsibility campaign with Delta's Sport Sponsorship following closely behind.
Reaching close to six million subscribers underlines Econet's commercial success, but the company's true strength continues to be the work it does work in the community.
In April 2008, the Trust began a programme to refurbish public health institutions in rural districts across Zimbabwe.
That way, Econet's intervention was targeted and relevant.
To date, Capernaum Trust, through which Econet runs support programmes for orphaned children, has sponsored over 50 000 disadvantaged children to enable them to have access to primary, secondary and tertiary education.
Joshua Nkomo Scholarship Fund has to date assisted over 500 academically gifted students.
The major brand behind sport has been Castle although there are other various brands in the beverages portfolio that are supporting sport in a major way.
Castle sponsors the Premier Soccer League, English Premier League Coverage, Cricket, Horse Racing, Cosafa, FA Cup Coverage.
Carling Black Label sponsors Pool (Black Ball Challenge) while Golden Pilsener sponsors Golf (Zimbabwe Open, A'Zambezi Tour). Coca-Cola sponsors COPA Coca-Cola
The objectives of sponsoring sport have been deeply rooted in the desire by the company to plough back to society through corporate social responsibility. Secondly to align the various brands to the target consumer through activities they love most which is sport.
